This innovative program is designed to significantly reduce time and costs for high school students who want to become certified teachers.

The Fast Track

While in high school, students will be purposefully and intentionally advised on core courses that they can take via dual credit. These courses will transfer to any college or university on all degree plans since they are core curriculum courses.

High School students will complete 30 semester credit hours during high school. Next, students will apply to and enter Amarillo College for one year (another 30 semester credit hours), and then transfer to WTAMU’s educator preparation program for two years of educator preparation and training.

3 years post high school graduation = Bachelor’s degree and standard Texas Teaching certification!

Benefits

  • Reduction in time to Bachelor’s degree and Texas Teacher certification by 25%
  • First year of college credit for $1,500 compared to $3,960--$10,000 standard tuition.
  • Total cost of college degree reduced by 30-36%
  • Begin a paid career with benefits 3 years post high school graduation
  • Priority field placements while in the program with the student’s home school district
  • Priority interviews with the student’s home school district upon degree and certification completion

Partners

One2Teach is a collaboration between Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University partnering with local school districts. Currently, Amarillo ISD, Canyon ISD, Dumas ISD, and Hereford ISD are piloting this innovative approach to teacher certification. High School students in these districts may apply to enter the One2Teach program at any point; however, we encourage students to apply their Sophomore year for the most intentional advising of dual credit courses.
