Professional Profile

Dr. Jennings was named Assistant Professor of Counseling in the Terry B. Rogers College of Education in 2023. He received a BA in Psychology from West Texas A&M University in 2000, an M.A. in Counseling from West Texas A&M University in 2003, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Texas Tech University in 2015. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and is a Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Jennings previously taught as an adjunct professor of counseling at Texas Tech University, as well as, Eastern New Mexico University, and Denver Seminary over the last eight years.  Dr. Jennings previously served as co-chair for the Graduate Student Committee of the Texas Counseling Association (TCA), in 2013-2014. He has served as a board member of the Texas Association for Adult Development and Aging (TAADA) from 2012-2015. Dr. Jennings has taught Counseling Internship, Counseling Practicum, Psychopharmacology, Human Development, Addictions Counseling (basic and advanced levels), and Marriage and Family Counseling. Dr. Jennings was awarded as a Graduate of Distinction – College of Education and Social Sciences, West Texas A&M University (2017).

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Jennings is passionate about marriage and family counseling and has been in private practice since 2005. After receiving his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision in 2015, Dr. Jennings has taught at various universities while publishing book chapters on Career Counseling, as well as Marriage and Family Counseling. He has published research on Middle School Bullying: Student Reported Perceptions and Prevalence (2018). Dr. Jennings is currently under contract with Cognella Publishing, working on an academic book titled “Building a Private Counseling Practice: Nuts and Bolts of Running an Ethical and Profitable Business” due to be released in 2024. His research interests are focused on parenting styles and family dynamics. Other research interests include, working with married couples and treating pornography addiction.
