5.2 | Appeals
5.2.A | Certain departments require an appeal to resolve specific issues. The following offices have standard procedures for formal resolution of issues within their scope.
- Discrimination/Civil Rights and Title IX Appeals:
- Students who have been found Responsible through the Title IX process may appeal the decision only on the basis of a procedural irregularity that affected the outcome, new evidence not reasonably available at the time of the determination regarding responsibility or dismissal that could affect the outcome, the Title IX Coordinator, investigator, or decision maker can a conflict of interest or bias that affected the outcome, or to challenge the appropriateness or severity of the sanctions. - Grade Challenges:
- Students wishing to challenge a semester grade can do so by following the established procedures outlined in section 1.12 of this Handbook.
- Academic Suspensions and Holds:
- WTAMU Rule 13.01.99.W1 outlines the University’s procedure in regard to Academic Probation and Suspension for Undergraduate students. A student may appeal an Academic Suspension in accordance with the deadlines established by the Registrar and should complete the following form: https://www.wtamu.edu/_files/docs/registrar/Request%20for%20Reinstatement%20After%20Serving%202nd%20Suspension%20Form%20May%2022%202020.pdf.
- Student Conduct Appeals:
- Student(s) and/or student organizations who are found Responsible after a Formal Hearing in the Student Conduct process can appeal the determination using the steps outlined in 2.7.E.d Appeal Procedure. - Parking Citation Appeals:
- Students may appeal a parking citation within 20 days of their issued citation date and can do so through the University Police Department, Parking Services website. The appeal will be assigned to the next appeal hearing and will be reviewed by the Student Appeals Committee, which is comprised of judicial members from Student Government.
