Post Masters Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certification
The Post-Master’s Emergency Nurse Practitioner certificate is designed for Family Nurse Practitioners who already hold an M.S.N. and want to expand their expertise in emergency and urgent care.
This program combines classroom instruction with simulation, EMS operations, disaster preparedness, and direct clinical experience to help you build advanced, real-world skills. Each course includes a separate clinical component, giving you the hands-on training needed to strengthen competency and apply what you learn in practice. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to take for the national Emergency Nurse Practitioner certification examination.

Prerequisites:
- Students must hold a master’s or doctoral degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution.
- Students must hold a current national board certification as an FNP and have a minimum of two (2) years experience.
- Students must hold an unencumbered APRN Texas license.
- Students must have current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
Admission Information
Program Eligibility Checklist:
- The applicant must have an overall undergraduate GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale with no grade below "C" for the last 60 hours of undergraduate or graduate coursework.
- Failure in any nursing coursework will be taken into consideration. A Nursing GPA will also be calculated and taken into consideration. If you do not have the minimum GPA, please contact the Nursing Department for additional options for consideration.
Application Checklist:

- Official transcripts showing an earned master's or doctoral degree in Nursing from a CCNE accredited institution and other completed
- Submit the Graduate Nursing Program Application
- Provide verification of current CPR certification and required immunizations, including Hepatitis B
- Provide contact information for two (2) non-academic clinical supervisory references. Recommender information must be provided on your applicant portal
- Submit a written a goal statement that will be evaluated based on:
- Clear focus related to a goal statement
- Supportive detail regarding the goal statement
- Organization of goal statement (clear introduction, body and conclusion)
- Clarity, grammar, and punctuation
- Goal statement is typed with a word count of between 500-750 words.
- Completion of an in-person faculty interview once application paperwork is completed

- March 1 for fall admission
- September 1 for spring admission
