Professional Profile:

Elizabeth Ryann Thompson, MSN, RN, CNE, CNE-cl, joined the West Texas A&M University Laura & Joe Street School of Nursing in 2023. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Tarleton State University in 2018 and her Master of Science in Nursing Education (MSN) from Aspen University in 2024. In the same year, she achieved certification as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and, in 2025, became a Certified Academic Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE-cl) through the National League for Nursing. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Executive Leadership at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, with an anticipated graduation in December 2026. In recognition of her exemplary leadership, she was named the 2025 recipient of the Dr. Valerie Kiper Doctoral Leadership Scholarship.

Mrs. Thompson brings more than six years of experience in acute care, with a strong background in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and Emergency Department (ED). She has served as a staff nurse, charge nurse, and Clinical Nurse Educator in the ED, where she led onboarding, education, and professional development initiatives for a Level III Trauma Center. She continues to practice clinically as a PRN nurse in both the ED and SICU at BSA Health System.

 

Teaching and Related Service:

At WTAMU, Mrs. Thompson has taught courses including Nursing Concepts, Health Assessment, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, and Critical Care Nursing. In addition to her teaching role, she is an academic advisor, serves on multiple departmental committees, and is the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Director-Successor, a position she will assume in 2026.

Beyond the university, Mrs. Thompson is actively engaged in professional service. She is a board member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Delta Delta Chapter), the American Nurses Association, the Texas Nurses Association, American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, and the Emergency Nurses Association – West Texas Panhandle Chapter, where she serves as Government Affairs Chair. In 2025, she was selected to sit as a delegate at the ENA National Conference in September 2025. At BSA Health System, she is the Intensive Care Unit Morale Committee Chair, ED Nurse Governance Co-Chair, and is part of the upcoming ECMO bedside nursing team launching in Spring 2026.

 

Research and Creative Activity:

Mrs. Thompson’s current research focuses on doctoral research exploring strategies to improve EMS-to-ED handoff communication using the IMIST-AMBO tool and TeamSTEPPS Situation Monitoring to enhance patient safety and continuity of care.
