CS Events and Achievements

Recent Events

  • WT COE hosted Dr. Tomislav Pribanic, a Fulbright Scholar currently doing research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, on March 10th and 11th. As part of his visit to the university, Dr. Pribanic interacted with about 100 students and all faculty members. He also presented a lecture entitled “3D Reconstruction Using Active Illumination” Wednesday, March 11th, from 12:00-1:00 pm in ECS Room 203.
  • CS faculty and students participated in the 14th Annual Faculty Research Poster Session and Research Fair conducted by WT Cornett Library on Thursday, March 7, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in Cornette Library.
  • WT ACM Student chapter organized Fall 2019 Hackathon under the umbrella of MLH Local Hack Day: Learn on October 12, 2019.
  • The number of WTAMU computer science students placing in the top 1% of competitors in the Master the Mainframe Contest 2020 ranked among the top five universities in North America.
  • Dusan Ramljak joined WT as CS Instructor during Fall 2019.

 

Upcoming Events

  • CS program as a NCWIT affiliate member will be hosting a Virtual National Ceremony to celebrate Aspiration in Computing Award winners on May 30.

 

Recent CS Student Achievements

  • Sophia Barnett and Gabrielle Chavez have receive Grace Hopper Student Scholarship to attend the 2020 Virtual Grace Hopper Celebration from Monday, Sep. 28 to Friday, Oct. 2. Grace Hopper Celebration is the world's largest gathering of women technologists. It is produced by AnitaB.org and presented in partnership with ACM.
  • Sophia Barnett has been selected to server as the Transfer Ambassador for Fall 2019/Spring 2020 semesters. She is also part of American Indian Scholarship Reboot program.
  • Natalia Ezquivel has been accepted into Rogers Lead program at WT.

 

Recent CS Faculty Achievements

  • Alex Rajan has been selected as Fulbright U.S. Scholar to teach/conduct research at an University in Qatar.
  • Vinitha Subburaj has been awarded a Grace Hopper Celebrations Faculty Scholarship to attend the 2020 Virtual Grace Hopper Celebration from Monday, Sep. 28 to Friday, Oct. 2.
  • Dusan Ramljak and Dr. Vinitha Subburaj were selected to present their research work at 2020 Faculty Research Poster Session and Research Fair on Thursday, March 7, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in Cornette Library.
  • Vinitha Subburaj (sub-recipient) in collaboration with TTU (recipient), SPC, and local industries recently won Texas Talent Connection grant for the project titled “Cyber-physical Security Training for the Energy and Water industry”.
