Student Organization & High School Conference

Teachers and Advisors: We are now enrolling delegations for the 2024 WT Model UN Conference.

Additionally, the 2024 delegate guide is also available.

What is Model United Nations?

According to UNA-USA:

“Model United Nations is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and other multilateral bodies. In Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to debate current issues on the organization’s agenda. While playing their roles as ambassadors, student “delegates” make speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the Model UN conference rules of procedure – all in the interest of mobilizing international cooperation to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world."

In essence, a group of students, known as "delegates," take part in conferences hosted by various universities, where they assume the roles of either a specific country or individual. In the standard "General Assembly" sessions, each delegate is assigned a country to represent. For example, a delegate from one school might represent the United States, while one from another could represent Zimbabwe. They engage in various committees like the Security Council, UNEP, or the WHO. Over the course of a weekend, these delegates debate with others from different institutions on a range of international issues, such as human trafficking, the global economic downturn, or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Their goal is to collaboratively draft and hopefully adopt an extensive resolution that proposes solutions to these problems.

Participating in Model UN, delegates not only enhance their understanding of worldwide issues but also develop skills in public speaking, negotiation, and interpersonal communication as they engage in debates with students representing global viewpoints.
