Professional Profile

My name is Dr. Sahar Sheikh, and I recently graduated with a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Toledo, where I also earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology and clinical mental health counseling. Since Fall 2021, I have been teaching counseling courses (graduate and undergraduate) at the University of Toledo, and I truly enjoy creating interactive classroom experiences with students in both virtual and in-person settings.

I am very excited to join West Texas A&M University to teach counseling courses and get to know the students as they develop their professional counseling skills and confidence. In addition, I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Ohio. Clinically, I have primarily worked with youth populations (ages 3–17), providing diagnostic assessments, individual counseling, and group therapy for clients with neurodevelopmental disorders. As an educator, I love helping students develop their counseling skills using creative approaches such as incorporating pop culture references. Watching students grow into skilled, compassionate counselors is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

Teaching and Related Service

I am teaching Counseling Helping Skills (COUN 6375) and Cross Cultural (COUN 6330)

Research and Creative Activity

My research interests focus on the validation and revalidation of counseling-related measurement scales, with a particular emphasis on applying modern measurement methodologies
