Professional Profile

Dr. Baker joined the Equine Industry Program in 1995. He earned a B.S. in Animal Science from Texas Tech University, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition from Oklahoma State University.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Baker teaches Equine Care & Management, Equine Science & Production, and Equine Business Management, Principles of Animal Nutrition, as well as various graduate-level courses.

Dr. Baker has been serving as the Ranch Horse Team coach since 2020. Competing in Division l of SHTX and NIRSHA, the team has several Champion and Reserve Champion titles, as well as numerous Individual Champion and Reserve Champion awards.

He is also a licensed judge for the American Quarter Horse Association (All-Around and Versatility Ranch Horse) and the National Reined Cow Horse Association.

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Baker’s area of research interests are equine nutrition, mineral nutrition and exercise physiology. He has chaired or co-chaired 2 Ph.D. and 43 M.S. students. Data from our equine research program is cited 25 times in the 2007 Equine NRC.
