What is an Audition?
Are you getting ready to come to WT? Well, after filling out your application, music majors and minors have one more step: the audition. This may sound intimidating, but we'll make sure you have all the information you need to succeed!
Who?
All incoming students will need to have an audition before being admitted to the school of music. This includes: majors, minors, undergrads, graduates, performance focus, education focus, business focus, voice, strings, winds... everyone!
What?
An audition at WT is simply a short tryout you give in front of our faculty. You'll play something you've prepared, and it gives our faculty a chance to get to know you as a musician and explore the best opportunities for you within the program
When?

Our final day for live auditions is Saturday, March 28, 2026.

If it isn't possible for you to make it in person, you can send in a recording. Use the same form (link below) for live auditions and select distance audition.

Where?
All of our live auditions are held on the WTAMU campus at 2501 4th Ave, Canyon, TX 79016 in Mary Moody Northen Hall. After filling out your audition schedule form (found below), we'll let you know the specific time and room number.
Why?

In order to determine if WT will be a good fit for you, we want to see your preparation and level as a musician. It doesn't have to be perfect - that's the point of coming to school: to improve!

How?

When you arrive at Mary Moody Northen Hall, our friendly students and staff will check you in, answer any questions, and guide you to your audition room. You'll perform your prepared pieces, and faculty may follow up with a brief conversation about you and your next steps. Once you're done, we'd love for you to explore our facilities and take a tour!

Advice

Arrive early: Try to arrive about 10-15 minutes before your scheduled audition time to get settled and feel at ease.

Practice performing: Before your audition, try playing for your teacher, your parents, your friends, or even your pets! A practice performance helps calm nerves and prepares you for playing in front of others.

Relax: Instead of thinking about the audition like an exam, think about it as meeting someone for the first time. The faculty just want to get to know you and hear what you're capable of.

Smile! Everyone is rooting for you to succeed and hopes that you do your best.
