How to Join

The Sound of West Texas WT Marching Band is open to any students, regardless of major.

What's the timeline for joining the WT Marching Band?

Once you have been officially accepted to the university, you can join by following these easy steps:

1.) Register for the class – For students who are new to WT, make sure you register for the class during your advising experience. All band members MUST be registered for the class to participate!

MUEN 1026 01 – All Freshman & Sophomore Music Majors
MUEN 1026 02 – All Non-Majors (zero hour credit)
MUEN 3026 01 – All Juniors & Senior Music Majors

2.) Fill out the Band Information Form online – This form is available on the band website beginning in late April and must be filled out by ALL members who plan to march. Due August 1st.

3.) Download the membership packet – Download the membership packet (available late April); fill out and return all forms as indicated.

Brass and Woodwinds

Brass and woodwind players with high school band experience are admitted without preliminary auditions. All members will participate in the “Early Band” training before the beginning of school. This is where we learn a unified style and at least one show before the start of the semester.

Percussion

Percussionists (battery only) are placed by audition. The percussion section holds its formal auditions before the start of Early Band. Please email our percussion professor, Dr. Ryan Boehme, at rboehme@wtamu.edu.

Color Guard

Membership in the Color Guard is determined by audition. Auditions are typically held on the first Saturday in May on our campus. Please check back to this website for updated information later in the spring semester.
