• Two contrasting etudes or movements of a solo of your choice. This can include all region etudes, solo and ensemble pieces, etc. Work up something that can really show off your playing ability.
• Major scales up to three sharps and flats. There is no particular range required, so play as many octaves as you feel comfortable playing.
• There may be a short sight reading excerpt. 
• You are not required to play with an accompanist, nor will it affect your audition results.

• Only students who have passed freshmen Theory I & II with an A will be reviewed for admittance. 
• Submit a portfolio consisting of 3-5 representative works (scores and recordings). 
• Portfolios will be reviewed beginning in January for admittance into the studio the following Fall.

The review of the portfolio will focus on quality of notation, use of non-chord tones, chromaticism, form, etc. Keep in mind that it would be much better to submit an audio recording of an exquisite 3 minute duet that showcases your compositional ability and communication through music than to submit a 20+ minute band or orchestral work using computer sounds that lacks refinement. 
The studio is dedicated to developing the technical skills requisite for artistic self-expression in the art of composition. The years of study in composition will help students develop a unique voice through the careful study and application of varied compositional techniques and styles. Careful study of specific 20th century composers and works will be incorporated in the lessons and seminars. A typical composition student at WT will strive to create works that acknowledge their place in the 21st century and serve to consciously add to the musical milieu.

• There may be a short sight reading excerpt. 
• You are not required to play with an accompanist, nor will it affect your audition results.

• A concert-style solo or etude on snare drum. Students may also wish to demonstrate part or all of a rudimental solo.
• A solo or etude on marimba or vibraphone. Demonstration of four mallet abilities is preferred.
• A solo or etude on timpani.
• Major scales and arpeggios, 2-3 octaves.
• Sight-reading  of elementary-intermediate level music on keyboard percussion (2 mallet) and snare drum as selected by auditioning committee.

• A letter of recommendation from your current piano teacher.
• A repertoire list for your junior and senior (high school) years.
• Two memorized, contrasting works from the piano repertoire.
• Demonstrate knowledge of scales, chords, arpeggios.
• Sight-reading of elementary-intermediate level music selected by the auditioning committee.

• Demonstrate knowledge of scales, chords, arpeggios.

• For a recorded audition: Send a quality video recording that shows your side profile (as in a concert performance) as well as the hands on the keys. In addition to the solo pieces, play scales, arpeggios, and chord progressions in a variety of major and minor keys, including those beginning on black keys as the student’s level allows. Limit to six keys (three major, three minors, or six majors if the student has not studied minor keys). One may omit the sight-reading component.

• Two contrasting movements from major repertoire. (Concertos, sonatas, solo suites, etc.)
• Major orchestral excerpts may be performed in addition or as a substitution with approval of the applied professor in that area.
• Technical work, scales, and/or sight reading may be requested.
• Contact the professor of your instrument with questions about substitutions or specific information.

• Two Songs.
• 1. Song in a foreign language.
• 2. Song of your choice from the classical music repertoire.
• Your audition will also include a sight-reading exercise and a short interview.
• Transfer student programs must reflect junior level competency before being allowed to enroll in upper level voice.
• Transfer students are required three songs in three languages with one selection being an aria from standard opera or oratorio repertoire.
