About Us
The WT Symphony Orchestra is one of the top large ensembles at WT. Directed by Dr. Mark Bartley, the Symphony Orchestra boasts a diverse repertoire and holds opportunities for students to participate in full orchestra as a player, principal, soloist, and graduate conductor. The 70-member orchestra includes graduate and undergraduate students, both those majoring in music as well as those pursuing other majors. Alumni and professors also contribute, bringing in local expertise.
This semester, the orchestra opened the year with their classical concert featuring Beethoven's 5th symphony, Ney Rosauro's Marimba concerto featuring the 2025 Mila Abbasova Concerto Competition winner Brandon Garcia, and Rollercoaster, a fun little piece by Otto M. Schwarz.
In addition to its performances of symphonic works, opera productions, choral-orchestral masterworks, dance collaborations, and music videos, the West Texas A&M University Symphony Orchestra has gained notoriety for its live cinema presentations of silent films with newly-composed synchronized soundtracks.
The ensemble frequently tours the West Texas region, but has also traveled around the globe with performances in Costa Rica, South Korea, Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.
Honors include awards from The American Prize, National Opera Association, Golden Nail Awards, and an appearance at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) convention in San Antonio.
