Professional Profile

Dr. Sung In Choi is an Assistant Professor of Digital Communication and Media at the Department of Communication, West Texas A&M University. She earned her Ph.D. in Mass Communication at University of Georgia and and both her M.A. and B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication at Hanyang University, South Korea.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Choi’s teaching expertise focuses on helping students develop essential knowledge and skills in communication, emerging media, and research methodology from both theoretical and applied perspectives. She teaches Advertising Principles, Digital Advertising, Advertising Campaigns, Media Sales (Strategy), and Research Methods within the Department of Communication.

She also advises the Buffalo Advertising Team, guiding students in developing advertising campaigns for real-world clients and participating in national and regional student competitions, including the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) and the American Advertising Federation (AAF) Student Competition.

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Sung In Choi’s research focuses on risk communication with emerging media technologies. Her work examines how specific features of strategic messages shape individuals’ cognitive and emotional responses during public health and environmental crises.

She has conducted international research collaborations at multiple research institutions such as University of Jyväskylä (Finland), Northumbria University (UK) and Hanyang University (South Korea). She has also published in leading journals, including Journal of Health Communication and Corporate Communication: An International Journal, and presented her research at major mass communication conferences such as ICA and AEJMC.
