Professional Profile

Dr. Li Chen joined the College of Fine Arts and Humanities in 2016. She received a B.A. in Journalism from Fudan University in Shanghai, China in 2009, an M.A. in Media Studies from Syracuse University in 2011, and a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Iowa in 2016.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Chen teaches Media Communication Theory, Media History and Media Communication Ethics.

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Chen’s areas of research center on health communication. In recent years, she is most interested in studying health narratives surrounding emerging public health controversies; and online health misinformation such as vaccine-related conspiracy theories. She uses survey and experimental methods to examine how health educators could effectively rebut untruthful claims about health.
