Professional Profile

Dr. Li Chen joined the College of Fine Arts and Humanities in 2016. She received a B.A. in Journalism from Fudan University in Shanghai, China in 2009, an M.A. in Media Studies from Syracuse University in 2011, and a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Iowa in 2016.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Chen teaches Mass Communication Theory and Mass Communication Ethics.

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Chen’s research interests include social media, political communication, and health communication in the global context. In particular, she explores the role of emerging media in facilitating civic participation and in promoting social change within different political systems. She is also interested in studying how health care professionals use social media to improve public health literacy.
