Professional Profile
Dr. Stephens joined the Department of English, Philosophy, and Modern Languages in 2025. He received his BS in English and MAT in secondary education from Frostburg State University. At the University of Central Florida, he completed an MFA in creative writing specializing in fiction. He earned his PhD in Creative Writing and Literature from the University of Houston.
Teaching and Related Service
Typically Dr. Stephens teaches creative writing and first year writing courses. Throughout his career, he has also taught literature, technical writing, and comics as literature.
Research and Creative Activity
Dr. Stephens's creative works include short fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, comics, and a short play. His work has appeared in The Georgia Review, The Pinch, Epoch, the Southeast Review, The Hopkins Review, The Rumpus, and elsewhere. His awards include multiple Inprint Donald Barthelme awards, an Into the Void Fiction Prize, a Sequestrum Emerging Writer Award, and inclusion in Wigleaf's Top 50 Very Short Fictions. Currently, he serves as the creative nonfiction editor for Aquifer: The Florida Review Online.
