Career Exploration through Informational Interviews

When you need answers, need to see how something will work, if it will work in your life, you have the opportunity to "prototype" it. Prototyping the Life Design way is all about finding ways to try things out. Prototypes should be designed to ask a question and get some data about something you're interested in. Prototypes are a great way to start a conversation, and, more often than not, one thing typically leads to another. They allow you to try and fail rapidly without over-investing in a path before you have any data. Join us as we dive into prototypes and how this design style can help you with conversations at the upcoming expos or in an informational interview, or as you prepare for internships, jobs, or even deciding a major.

Here's the handout used in the workshop.

Explore You(Science)

Choosing a major and planning for your future career is a process, not a destination with a finite ending point. Making good decisions depends on gathering good information. When developing a career plan, this includes information both about you and about careers. So, what types of information about yourself should you gather? Of course most people think about interests and skills when they think about careers. "What do I like?" or "What am I good at?" There are also other things to consider such as work values and personality fit. "Who do I want to work with?" or "Where do I want to be in my career in five years?" Join us as discuss how learning your aptitudes and interests can better assist you in choosing a major and/or career path.
