Job posting policy
West Texas A&M University's Office of Career and Professional Development provides a referral service and makes no particular recommendations regarding employers. We make no representations or guarantees about positions posted by this office. We are not responsible for safety, wages, working conditions, or any other aspect of off-campus employment. Students are urged to perform due diligence in researching employers when applying for or accepting any off-campus employment.
A legitimate job will NEVER require you to deposit or pay any money from your personal accounts. Be aware of scammers! If you have any questions about a job posting, contact our office at 806.651.2345.
Additionally, students are encouraged to read the terms of use policy on any job board they use, including Handshake.
WTAMU is an equal opportunity employer and will consider all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, disability or national origin.
Mock interview cancellation policy
Because our interviewers are volunteering their time to assist our students, we need to be respectful of their time.
If you must cancel, do so as soon as you know you cannot attend, HOWEVER, you must let us know by 5:00 p.m. two business days before the interview is scheduled. For example, if you have a mock interview scheduled for Monday, you must cancel by 5:00 p.m. the Thursday before. If your interview is on Wednesday, you must cancel by 5:00 p.m. the Monday before, etc. Up until this deadline, you can log in to Handshake and remove yourself from the schedule. After that you must call our office to cancel.
If you cancel late - or do not show up on time or dressed appropriately - for a scheduled interview, you will be required to meet with a career and professional development staff member where you bring the letter of apology you've written to the recruiter with whom you were scheduled to interview. Until you write this letter and have it reviewed by our staff member, you will be blocked from participating in Career and Professional Development activities, including on campus interviews, mock interviews, applying for jobs through Handshake and attending our events.
Although we understand that emergencies happen, there are no exceptions to this policy. This is not meant to be punitive but rather to instill and promote professional behavior.
Clothing closet use policy
In order to assist as many students as possible with clothing from the professional clothing closet, each person is limited to one outfit each semester. The Office of Career and Professional Development will track student use in Handshake so that there is an accurate record on file.
