Prepare an Elevator Pitch

Do you dread the “Tell me about yourself” question when interviewing or networking? An elevator pitch is a short blurb that you can use to tell the employer about yourself, your career goals, and your skill set. The point of an elevator speech is to spark the employer’s interest. Some questions to ask yourself when creating your elevator pitch are: Who am I? What do I do? And what do I want to do?

An effective elevator pitch is the following:

  • Brief, 30-60 seconds long
  • Mentions your career goals
  • Shares your skills
  • Compelling
  • Most importantly, make sure you practice your elevator pitch!
