Course Registration

Per the federal Department of Homeland Security regulations, undergraduate students in F1 student visa status are required to enroll in:

• At least 12 credit hours per semester
• At least 9 of those 12 hours must be face-to-face

*Please note: Education on Demand (EOD) courses do not count towards the above requirements. You are welcome to take EOD courses above and beyond the above requirements.

*Please be aware of scholarship enrollment requirements. Most undergraduate scholarships require students to be enrolled in 15 credit hours to receive their scholarship.

Withdrawing from Classes

If you register for classes, withdraw from them for any reason (including visa denial) and then wish to re-register for another semester at WT, you will nee to reapply to WT, including payment of a new application fee.

Once a student has registered for classes at any time, our systems do not allow us to defer an application.

Please Note: Withdrawals from WT are not automatic. Please follow the withdrawal instructions on the Registrar's website here

Non-Payment Information

If you enter the US on a WT F1 student visa and your schedule is deleted for non-payment (e.g. you didn't pay your bill), this is a violation of your visa status and your visa status will be terminated.

We strongly encourage students to get the vaccine before coming to WT. It will make everything easier for you when you come on-campus if you have already done this.

Please upload your current meningitis vaccination records to your Applicant Portal.

About Meningitis

Texas Law requires all students (under age 22) entering an institution of higher education (public and private) to either receive a vaccination against bacterial meningitis or meet certain criteria for declining such a vaccination before the first day of the semester.

Students Who Attended US Institution(s)

• To receive transfer credit, we must have your final and official transcripts. WT will not process unofficial or not final transcripts for transfer credit.
  • Most US institutions allow you to request and send official transcripts online.

Students with Non-US Post-Secondary Credits

• To receive transfer credit, we must have course descriptions for each course that you received credit for from your institution

About Course Descriptions

• Course descriptions must be issued by the university registrar, dean's office, or equivalent
• Course descriptions are a description of course learning objectives: what was taught and what you learned in the course
• Course descriptions are different from the foreign credential evaluation report. While the evaluation provides US equivalencies of credits and grades, evaluations cannot match those courses to those taught at WT

Second Bachelor Students are exempt from the TSI. This is because all Second Bachelor students have already satisfied the TSI through their first bachelor's degree.

Freshmen and Transfer students must still complete the TSI.

International TSI Process

We strongly encourage students to take the TSI before entering the US. Doing so will make everything much easier for you when you arrive.

1. To register for TSI, please send an email to the following addresses: glawler@wtamu.edu and bawilson@wtamu.edu. For them to register you, they will need all of the following information:
   
   • Full Legal Name (First and Last)
   • Date of Birth (month/day/year)
   • Student (BUFF) ID Number
   • Address, including city, state/province, country
   • Phone number, with country code
   • Student/Buff Email Address
   • Which sections of TSI that you need to take (Math, Reading, and/or Writing)
     • Unless otherwise notified, please take all 3 sections
   • A satement that you are an international applicant needing to test for TSI
2. Once step 1 is complete, you will receive an email from ACCUPLACER EXAMINATIONS with instructions on how to schedule the exam. There is a $25 fee for each exam, that covers proctoring fees
   • Please allow the team above a few days to process your request and receive the email
3. After you have completed the TSI, you will receive your scores by email. Please upload the email and the scores to your Applicant Portal. We cannot move onto the next step until you do this.
4. Once your scores are uploaded to the portal, they will be reviewed, and a zoom advising appointment with an academic advisor will be scheduled.

About the TSI

The TSI (Texas Success Initiative) is required of all students before they can enroll in a public institution in Texas. All undergraduates are required to be assessed in reading, writing, and math before enrolling in university-level courses.

Unless the Office of Admissions - International has told you otherwise, please register for all 3 exams.

The TSI examination is not a pass/fail exam - it is a placement test only.

Once you are ready for course registration, we will send an email to both you and your academic advisor, letting them know that you are ready for course registration.
