How to Apply

The McNair Scholars program encourages all eligible students to apply.

Applications are accepted each year beginning October 17th until February 1st. Apply Online.

The applications are screened and a pool of top candidates are selected to be interviewed. Prospective applicants are also required to submit copies of  transcripts and current tax returns.

Application Packet Check List:

  1. Application may be completed online.
  2. Transcripts from all schools attended.
  3. If classified as "Independent" by the Financial Aid Office, a copy of  your current IRS 1040 form must be submitted.
  4. If classified as "Dependent" by the Financial Aid Office, a copy of your parent's current IRS 1040 form must be submitted. 

These items can be dropped off at the McNair Scholars Office, Suite 184 in the Killgore Research Center or mailed to the McNair Scholars Office at WTAMU Box 60875, Canyon, TX  79015. (The McNair Scholars Office will not schedule an interview until all materials have been submitted.)

The McNair Scholars program is funded to serve 15 scholars each year. These students attend an orientation session where a contract is discussed and signed. The contract outlines the requirements of both the scholar and the McNair program. Selected scholars begin in May of the current year by engaging in summer research.
