Submitting Proposal for IRB Review

The three types of IRB reviews are classified as exempt, expedited, and full board. To submit a proposal to the West Texas A&M University IRB, complete the applicable proposal packet from the selections below. For assistance in determining the most appropriate IRB proposal to your research, review the Human Subject Regulations Decision Charts. Click on every link in the selected proposal packet to access the necessary instructions and forms. Proposal packets should be single-spaced with page numbers. The proposal cover sheet, narrative, and all attachments should be submitted in one document file. Please review the IRB Proposal Checklist to ensure that all required components of each section are included.

Submission Deadlines

The IRB reviews proposals and notifies PIs of the results every two weeks. Proposal submission deadlines are at 2:00 p.m. on the 1st and 15th of each month, except for the month of December and the first 15 days in May. In cases where the 1st or 15th falls on a weekend or holiday, due dates are at 2:00 p.m. on the next business day. The same conventions are adhered to with respect to IRB notifications of review results.

Note: Requests for submissions and reviews outside of the normal 1st and 15th review windows will typically be denied. Only in the most extreme of extenuating circumstances, with adequate justification, will these requests be considered. Advanced planning on the part of the PI is key in receiving timely notification of review results.
