What is Distance Learning?

Distance Education allows students to take courses through the world wide web without stepping foot on campus or inside a classroom. Most often students work from a remote location with an internet connection to complete assignments listed on the course’s website. Instructors and students interact though email communication, chat forums and discussion boards, usually asynchronously.

Distance Education courses can be synchronous or asynchronous. The first is similar to a traditional class where all the students meet at a pre-determined time. Asynchronous allows students who may be in other time zones or can’t meet during regular class times to work on the course when it best fits their schedule.

Courses offered through distance learning cover the same learning objectives as on-campus courses and, upon completion, grant the same amount of credit.

Find Distance Education courses by choosing "Web-based" in the location box.
