Upward Bound Programs

Our Mission
The mission of the West Texas A&M University Upward Bound grant project is to select qualified first-generation, low-income high school students from area target schools and provide dynamic, strengths-based programming in order to assist student participants in successful enrollment and completion of the post-secondary education program of their choice.
About Our Programs
Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math-Science is a FREE federally funded program that inspires, motivates, and provides development of fundamental skills, academic enrichment experiences, and exploratory opportunities for student participants to be successful in their admissions process, educational persistence, and completion of a post-secondary education program.

Services Offered

Upward Bound offers the following services to program participants:

  • Academic skills development through class instruction and tutoring
  • Student advising
  • Career and college major exploration
  • Financial Literacy workshops and activities
  • College entrance exam preparation
  • Assistance in accessing financial aid opportunities via the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and scholarships
  • Development of interpersonal and life skills
  • Parent/Family engagement via workshops and resources surrounding financial literacy, preparing to have a child in college, general information about attending college, etc.

Upward Bound Math-Science

Upward Bound Math-Science is a FREE federally funded program that inspires, motivates, and provides development of fundamental skills, academic enrichment experiences, and exploratory opportunities (especially within STEM areas) for student participants to be successful in their admissions process, educational persistence, and completion of a post-secondary education program.

WTAMU McNair Scholars Program

This program is designed to prepare qualified undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. The goal of the McNair program is to increase graduate degree attainment of students from underrepresented segments of society.

College Talent Search

The mission of the West Texas A&M University College Talent Search Program is to identify qualified disadvantaged students with potential for education at the postsecondary level and assist them to complete secondary school and undertake and graduate from postsecondary education by providing quality services in a consistent and timely manner.
