Summer Academy

This is the largest and most intensive component of the Upward Bound grant project.

Summer Academy is a 6-week residential program on the WTAMU campus available to all rising Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.

Activities and services provided during Summer Academy include, but are not limited to:

  • Intensive in-class instruction in Math, Science, English, and Foreign Language
  • Study skills, test-taking skills, organizational skills, and time management development
  • Interpersonal and social skills development
  • Career and college major exploration
  • Group project and research opportunities

Travel

Students who successfully complete the Summer Academy component are given the opportunity to go on a Culture Trip, in which they will tour various colleges/universities and tour different cities.

Students not only learn about what institutions are available for attending but also about the local culture and career opportunities of a city. Sometimes, there are other opportunities for travel during the academic year and summer months for students to tour additional colleges and universities.
