Families are valuable partners in helping students make the most of their University experience. Family Weekend will be filled with fun, food, and activities. Spend time with your student, meet their friends, and get a glimpse of student life at WTAMU. Mark your calendar for a great weekend with your Buff family.

This year, there is a  pre-registration process. Fill out the form to pre-register your family. Then meet us on campus and check-in for Family Weekend upon arrival. Check the schedule below for "Check-In" times and locations.

*Athletic event tickets are still at a cost. Visit gobuffsgo.com to purchase your game tickets.

*Theatre and Orchestra events also require a paid ticket for admissions.  Please use the links in the schedule below to purchase tickets.

Family Weekend Check-In 10:30AM-1PM 3PM-7PM JBK Legends Club Check-In with us recieve your lanyard plus lots of fun and free goodies! You can also buy a Family Weekend shirt for $10.
Mud Fest 11AM Open Fields Behind the VHAC Watch your students compete in mud Volleyball.
Family Fun Night At the AC 3PM-9PM Virgil Hensen Activities Center Join us for Family Fun Night at the Activities Center! Starting at 3:00 pm, families are invited to bowl for free in the bowling alley. Bring your loved ones and make memories during this fun-filled evening. Free admission with your familiy weekend nametag.
Paul Engler College of Business Open House 3PM-5PM Classroom Center 220 Explore and learn more about the Paul & Virginia Engler College of Business.
Paul Engler College of Natural Science Open House 3PM-5PM Natural Science Building Atrium The College of Natural Sciences will host an open house with faculty present to meet families and students. Students will have the opportunity to give their family members a tour of the building, and light refreshments will be available.
Paul Engler College of Agriculture 1PM-3PM The Ag Bulding The College of Agriculture will host an open house with faculty present to meet families and students. Students will have the opportunity to give their family members a tour of the building and meat lab, and light refreshments will be available.
Terry B. Rogers College of Education and Social Sciences 3PM-5PM Old Main 2nd Floor The College of Education and Social Sciences will host an open house where faculty will be available to connect with students and their families. Students are encouraged to guide their family members on a tour of the building, and light freshments will be provided.

Autumn Fest Canyon Farmers Market 8AM-12PM 4th Ave and 15th St. Local vendors, live music, and fall activies for the whole family.
Family Fun at the Activites Center 8AM-6PM Vigil Hensen Activities Center Free admisssion with your family weekend nametag sponsored by REC Sports.
Family of the Year Brunch 9AM  JBK Legacy Hall Family of the Year Nominees will be recognized and winner will be announced. (For family of the year Nominees Only)
Buffs, Brew & Bites with WT Fan Gear 10AM-12PM 2306 4th Ave (Across the Street from WT Campus) Hey Buffs… Come get your morning Brew & Bites with WT Fan Gear!
Maxwell's Pumpkin Farm  10AM-9PM 12908 S. Bell Street Amarillo, TX 79118 Maxwell's Pumpkin Farm celebrates it's 18th year for a fun fall festival Over 30 activities including a sunflower field, pumpkin patch, and giant maze Great food and photo ops. $12 entry with student ID and Family weekend badges at the ticket booth. Sunday Sept. 28
Hike in the Palo Duro Canyon  7:30AM Palo Duro Canyon Meet in First United Bank Parking  7:30AM and Carpool

WT Outdoors is hosting FREE special event during Family Weekend to unplug and connect while exploring the beauty of Palo Duro Canyon. Families are welcome to join a leisurely 2 mile hike guided by WT Outdoors after arriving to PDC or you may go explore on your own! No registration necessary, simply arrive at the FUB on campus at 7:30am to carpool to Palo Duro Canyon and gain your free entry for the day. Snacks and water provided by the Office of Orientation and Academic Success.

Family of the Year Nomination

The West Texas A&M University Family of the Year Award seeks to recognize parent(s)/grandparent(s)/guardian(s)/family member(s)/mentor(s) who have made a significant impact and contribution to the life of a WTAMU student. By supporting and encouraging our students, Buff families also support West Texas A&M University.

All West Texas A&M undergraduate, graduate students are eligible to nominate their parent(s)/grandparent(s)/guardian(s)/family member(s)/mentor(s) for this award.

 

The 2025 Family of the Year nominations are opened until September 12, 2025.

All submissions will be reviewed by the Family of the Year Committee. Check back for a list of our nominees
