Staff Council recognizes WT, SSC, and Aramark employees for years of service, retirement, degree completion, as well as for their dedication to the University during the annual All-Staff Service Awards Luncheon.

Employee of the Month

Congratulations to our March 2024 Employee of the Month, Kyle Hawbaker! Kyle serves as the Assistant Chief for the WT Police Department. Join us to celebrate Kyle at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 14th on the third floor of Old Main. 

How Can I Nominate a Deserving Employee?

WTAMU appreciates the efforts of the employees to achieve goals and maintain the vision of the University. Outstanding employees are to be recognized both as a reward for their performance but also to serve as a model for other employees. To nominate a deserving co-worker:­ please submit a nomination form through Submittable.

All part-time and full-time WTAMU Staff and SSC employees are eligible to be nominated for Employee-of-the-Month (EOM); faculty and student workers are not eligible (as classified with Human Resources, despite job responsibilities). Please review the nomination process rules, procedures and eligibility for nomination before submitting a nomination.

Every May, all of the winners of the Employee of the Month award are voted upon by the entire staff to be selected as the Employee of the Year. They are announced at the annual All-Staff Awards Luncheon in June.

Please join us in congratulating Mike Young, the 2023 Employee of the Year! Mike works as the IT Manager ll. Mike's unwavering dedication, exceptional work ethic, and outstanding contributions have set the standard for excellence within our organization. We applaud his achievements and thank him for his invaluable commitment to making West Texas A&M University a great community.

Staff Excellence Awards

The Clarence E. Thompson Staff Excellence Award is the University’s highest staff honor, and is meant to recognize and honor current non-faculty employees of WT for distinguished service in their departments. The Clarence E. Thompson Staff Excellence Award is named for a former mayor of Canyon who worked at WT for decades, ultimately serving as vice president for business and finance.

The University also gives high honors to staff members by bestowing the Staff Excellence Award.
