Financial Aid Checklists

This checklist is designed for you to print and use as a guide for your financial aid process.

Financial Aid Checklist:

  • Apply for Admission to the University. (NOTE: Applicants must have complete files in both the Admissions and the Financial Aid offices before aid can be awarded.)
  • Complete the FAFSA form as soon as the necessary income forms are completed. When completing the FAFSA, the tax return does need to be completed but does not have to have been sent to the Internal Revenue Service. (NOTE: Using estimated income data does delay processing.) If possible, utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when completing your FAFSA. The federal school code for WTAMU is 003665. By using this federal school code, WTAMU will receive the results electronically.
  • Results of the FAFSA will be sent to you via a STUDENT AID REPORT (SAR). When you receive the SAR, review all information. If corrections need to be made, make necessary corrections and return to the processor via either an e-mail directing to you to your Electronic Student Aid Report (ESAR) or a paper Student Aid Report (SAR) if an e-mail address was not provided. Please review all information. If corrections need to be made, make them electronically when possible or on paper and return to the processor.
  • If WTAMU is not listed on the SAR, you will need to submit a correction to your FAFSA.
Direct Loan Checklist:
  • Apply for Admission to the University. (NOTE: Applicants must have complete files in both the Admissions and the Financial Aid offices before aid can be awarded.)
  • Complete the FAFSA application, checking "Yes" on the FAFSA question which asks if you are interested in student loans.
  • Complete Entrance Counseling and a Master Promissory Note at studentaid.gov
Helpful Hints:
  • Apply early - meet all priority dates and deadlines to ensure you are awarded quickly.
  • Use name and social security number as they appear on your social security card - be sure to provide complete, accurate information.
  • Respond to all requests for information from the federal processor or Financial Aid - sometimes delays will occur if we need additional information to process an award.
  • Include name and social security number on all forms.

With few exceptions, state law gives you the right to request, receive, review and correct information about yourself collected on these forms. Let us know when you have questions so we can help.
