CANYON, Texas—West Texas A&M University was well represented in the student division of the 2019 ADDY Awards with graphic design students taking nine awards including the highest achievement of the night.

The annual event was hosted by Amarillo’s American Advertising Federation (AAF-Amarillo) on Feb. 23 at Hugo’s in Canyon. “The Great American Advertising Awards” was this year’s theme inspired by the Roaring '20s and “The Great Gatsby.”

Winners included local advertising agencies, civic organizations, schools, a television station and more. While more than 50 awards were bestowed, student Blake Cripps took home top honors with Best of Show in the student division for a unique illustration of a bison.

This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to advertising by furthering industry standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern.

“I am proud of the students for all their hard work this year,” Marcus Melton, associate professor of graphic design, said. “I congratulate them for their awards, and the incredible way they and our talented our alumni represent WT.”

The graphic design program at WT has won more than one hundred ADDY Awards in the last 10 years. This includes Best of Show with five in the student division and one in the professional division.
