Training

Training is available on the 2nd Thursday of every month either at 10 A.M. or 2 P.M.  The location of the training is Killgore Research Center, Room 103. R.S.V.P. is not necessary. Be sure to bring your UIN for the session in order to receive credit for the training.

If you or members of your staff need to complete training and the regularly scheduled sessions will not meet your needs, please feel free to contact ar-ehs@wtamu.edu or 806.651.2740, and we will do our best to accommodate your scheduling needs.

  • All personnel listed on a biosafety level two (BL2) BUP IBC permit must complete BL2 training, provided by the Office of Research and Compliance, before being permitted to enter and work in the BL2 lab. BL2 training is offered monthly and upon special request.
    • Biosafety Level 2 Annual Training Schedule - Training is available the 2nd Thursday of every month either at 10 A.M. or 2 P.M.  The location of the training is Killgore Research Center, Room 103. R.S.V.P. is not necessary. 
  • Principal Investigators conducting research involving recombinant DNA molecules must complete NIH Guidelines training. This training is offered online via the CITI program.
    • NIH Guidelines for Training Schedule - This training is only required once every three years

Returning Users

Step 3: Under "My Courses," select "Add a course or update your learner groups for West Texas A&M University"
Step 4: Under Question 7, select "The NIH Recombinant DNA (rDNA) Guidelines"

  • All personnel listed on a biosafety level three (BL3) permit must complete BL3 training, provided by the Office Research and Compliance, before being permitted to enter and work in the BL3 lab.  BL3 training is available upon request, as needed. Please contact the Office of Research and Compliance at 806.651.2740 or ar-ehs@wtamu.edu for assistance.
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Training: This training is designed to provide a basic understanding of bloodborne pathogens, common modes of transmission, methods of prevention, and other important information. If you have a reasonable risk of contact with human blood, tissues, body fluids, and/or other potentially infectious materials as part of your job duties, you must take this training. Annual retraining is mandatory. For more details on how to complete this training see below.
  • Documentation of Lab-Specific Training: The Principal Investigator is responsible for providing lab-specific training. Each employee working in BSL2 and above laboratories must receive and document the receipt of lab-specific training. Please complete and print, document the training, and scan and upload the document via email to ar-ehs@wtamu.edu.
