CANYON, Texas—1910 PR, the student-run public relations firm in West Texas A&M University’s Department of Communication, has named its new executive leadership team.

Allison Wallace, Gissel Olivas, Rachael Draper and Clarence Warren will lead the student staff as they serve clients this spring semester.

Wallace, a master’s student in the Department of Communication, will serve as the new executive director for 1910 PR. She is originally from San Angelo and moved to Canyon to further her education. She has worked with the WT Office of Student Engagement and Leadership for two years.

Olivas, another Department of Communication graduate student, joined 1910 PR as assistant adviser. Olivas, who is from Amarillo, also works as a reporter and assistant producer for Telemundo Amarillo and part-time reporter for NewsChannel 10.

“I am so excited to have this opportunity because I know it will open many doors for me in the future,” Olivas said. “I am looking forward to learning about PR in a way that I’ve never had the chance to do.”

Draper, a junior digital media and communications major from Abilene, and Warren, a senior public relations/advertising and public administration double major from Amarillo, will serve as assistant directors for 1910 PR.

“I’m so thankful for this opportunity to challenge myself and further expand my career in PR,” Draper said. “I’m excited to lead other students as we continue this journey together.”

1910 PR was founded in spring 2017 and is nationally recognized by the Public Relations Student Society of America. This student-run PR firm provides opportunities for hands-on training in the field of public relations with real work for clients, including the WT Distinguished Lecture Series, R2O HP, and the Department of Communication. Each semester, student staff members create content, manage social media, and plan events, among other strategies and tactics needed by their clients.

1910 PR is among the regionally responsive academic programs that fulfill the mission of WT, as outlined in the University’s long-term plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
