Professional Profile
Professor Hahn joined the WTAMU School of Music Faculty in 2025. He is currently finishing up his dissertation for his DMA from the University of North Texas. Additionally, he holds an MA from the University of Iowa and both a BM in Trombone Performance and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Western Michigan University. Highlights of Professor Hahn's musical career include performing with the Fort Worth Symphony and Des Moines Metro Opera along with placing and winning several solo competitions including those held by the International Women's Brass Conference and the International Trombone Association.
Teaching and Related Service
Professor Hahn teaches applied lessons to all trombone majors at WT while also conducting the WTAMU Trombone Choir and performing in the WTAMU Brass Quintet. Prior to his time at WTAMU, he served as the Center Brass Graduate Assistant where he played with the University of North Texas's top brass quintet which routinely competed around the country. As a performer, Professor Hahn won the 2025 Susan Slaughter Solo Competition hosted by the International Women's Brass Conference and was named one of three finalists in both the 2021 Larry Wiege Tenor Trombone Competition and the 2024 Frank Smith Solo Competition hosted by the International Trombone Association. His invited performances include the International Women's Brass Conference, the International Trombone Festival, and at several colleges. In 2022, Professor Hahn played the Nino Rota Concerto with the University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra while in 2024, he performed the Launy Grøndahl Concerto with the University of North Texas Concert Orchestra. Finally, he has had the pleasure of sitting in major ensembles like the Fort Worth Symphony and the Des Moines Metro Opera.
Research and Creative Activity
Professor Hahn's research interests include financial literacy for musicians, exploring works from new composers, and the life and music of trombone virtuoso Arthur Pryor.
Personal Sketch
Professor Hahn is happy to call Amarillo home where he lives with his girlfriend and two cats. In his free time, he enjoys playing disc golf, doing puzzles, and playing video games.
