WTAMU Professor Wins Discipline-Based Grant in Business Communication

CANYON, Texas—Dr. Leslie Ramos Salazar, assistant professor of business communication and Abdullat Professor of Business at the West Texas A&M University’s Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business, is the recipient of the 2018 C. R. Anderson Research Fund from the Association of Business Communication.

The C.R. Anderson Research Fund is a foundation established in honor of Professor C. R. Anderson, the founder of the Association of Business Communication, an international association of business faculty, administrators, consultants and practitioners. The selection criteria for the honor include scholarly contribution to the field of business communication, originality, innovation, theoretical grounding of the research and rigor of the research methodology

The grant will support Ramos Salazar’s research investigating the impact of mindfulness and self-compassion on business leaders’ communication competence, communication satisfaction, job satisfaction and personal well-being. Prior studies have documented that leaders experience daily physical and social stress when performing their work duties and examining positive organizational concepts such as mindfulness and self-compassion can enlighten scholars and practitioners about their impact in the workplace from a communication perspective.

Ramos Salazar is enthusiastic about the project and plans to make a meaningful contribution to the field of business communication by presenting her work at an Association of Business Communication conference in 2019 and by publishing her findings in a business communication journal.
