CANYON, Texas — Hundreds of prospective West Texas A&M University students are expected to attend the fall’s biggest recruitment event—and there’s still room for more.
Deadline is Oct. 24 for high school juniors and seniors to sign up for Discover WT, a day-long immersion into Buff life.
The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 25 in the heart of the WT campus in Canyon.
“Discover WT is our most exciting recruitment tradition of the year,” said Dr. Rick Haasl, vice provost for enrollment management. “This year, we’re emphasizing our outstanding academic programs. Prospective students will meet with faculty members of their chosen major and get to learn more about their future college.”
Future Buffs will meet current students to learn about how to get involved in campus life; meet their personal admissions counselor and get insider tips on the admissions process; tour the campus and residence halls; and learn about scholarships, financial aid and more.
Registered students will be entered in a chance to win a scholarship or an iPad.
“The event will be capped off with the energy and excitement of cheering on our volleyball team at The Box,” Haasl said. “It’s the perfect way to experience what makes WT truly exceptional.”
The event’s itinerary features:
- 10 a.m.: Check-in in the Jack B. Kelley Student Center
- 10:30 a.m.: Welcome in JBK Legacy Hall
- 11:15 a.m.: Academic Showcase in various locations
- 12:15 p.m.: Buff Experience Sessions in the Classroom Center
- 1:15 p.m.: Scholarship and iPad giveaways in Legacy Hall
- 1:30 p.m.: Campus tours beginning at the “Original Texans” sculpture on the Charles K. and Barbara Kerr Vaughn Pedestrian Mall
- 2:30 p.m.: WT Volleyball game in the WT Fieldhouse, or “The Box”
Recruiting, retaining and rewarding the best students is a key mission of the University’s long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
That plan is fueled by the historic One West comprehensive fundraising campaign, which reached its initial $125 million goal 18 months after publicly launching in September 2021. The campaign has raised more than $175 million and will continue through 2025.
