Buffalo Club Relaunches as the Buffalo Athletic Club with New Benefits for All Supporters

The Buffalo Athletic Club is a new way to look at the annual giving of Buffalo supporters. The former Buffalo Club operated as a sectored fundraising group, relying exclusively on memberships tied directly to its designated fund. The Buffalo Athletic Club now serves as the overarching umbrella of all areas of athletic annual giving. The main difference is that regardless of which athletic fund you choose to support, you will now be recognized as a Buffalo Athletic Club Member and will receive benefits corresponding to your level of contribution. In today's modern collegiate athletics department, this model of annual giving is used by most as it allows for greater donor recognition and ensures resources are allocated where they are most needed.

"This transformation of the Buffalo Athletic Club reflects our long-term commitment to serving all of our student-athletes and recognizing the donors who make that possible," said Doug Lipinski, Vice President of Athletics. "By opening benefits to every supporter who gives generously, regardless of where they direct their athletics gift, we're creating a more unified and impactful way of supporting WT Athletics. It's an exciting step forward for the entire WT community."

The landscape of collegiate athletics is undergoing its most significant transformation. Through all of these complexities we will continue to focus on creating the best student-athlete experience possible. Securing a sustainable financial future through revenue generation, operational efficiency and enhanced entrepreneurial initiatives will assist us to meet the demands of a modern athletics pro-gram.  As we continue to create systems for success, the 2024-25 season had impressive revenue growth with overall ticket sales increasing by 18%.

"My approach is one of transparency. It should be no secret that over the past few years the athletics department revenue generation efforts did not meet budget expectations creating a deficit. We implemented a new strategy for tickets sales this year that had positive results. This new giving model is another step to reach new philanthropic milestones. The holistic model will ensure we recognize every generous gift that supports WT student-athletes. We have many challenges but with the continuous support of our donors and growth of the Buffalo Athletic Club we will thrive in today's new world of collegiate athletics. Buff nation is the backbone of our team," said Lipinski.

Beginning with the 2025–26 membership year, any individual who has generously given since October 1, 2024, and those who continue or plan to give by September 30, 2025, will be classified as a Buffalo Athletic Club Member. This change not only reflects WT Athletics gratitude for its loyal donor community but also ensures that every student-athlete and every team can thrive. Whether it's enhancing facilities, improving travel accommodations, or supporting academic success, your gift makes a direct and lasting impact.

"This is about recognizing the generosity of all our supporters, not just those who give to one specific fund," said Zoe Spencer, Associate Athletic Director of Branding and Strategic Initiatives. "We're excited to make this shift because it reflects how deeply we value every gift. No matter where or how you give, your support powers every student-athletes journey and we believe the benefits should reflect that."

WT Athletics is grateful to every member who continues to invest in the future of its programs. Together, we are building a stronger foundation for athletic excellence, academic achievement, and community leadership.
