WT’s SAGE to Host Coat, Blanket Drive at Oct. 28 Football Game
CANYON, Texas — A West Texas A&M University student group will use Buffalo Football’s final home game of the season to help the community.
Students Assisting in Good Endeavors, or SAGE, will host a coat and blanket drive during WT’s game against Angelo State University on Oct. 28. Kickoff is 7 p.m. in Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium on the WT campus in Canyon.
“We’ll have bins set up throughout the stadium to collect new or gently used coats and blankets,” said Allison Seymour, event cochair and a junior biology/pre-med major from Amarillo. “As it says in Philippians 2:4, ‘Instead of each person watching out for their own good, watch out for what is better for others.’ In the end it doesn't matter what you have, but instead how you have served others.”
Donated coats and blankets will be given to Faith City Mission, an Amarillo nonprofit that offers shelter for those experiencing homelessness, ministries, clothing outreach and more.
SAGE is a faith-based student organization founded in 2000 that conducts regular service events to help children, the elderly, local charities and the WT community.
Monetary donations also can be accepted via SAGE’s Venmo account, @wtsage; donations should be labeled “coat drive.” Coats and blankets also may be dropped off at the Office for Student Engagement and Leadership in the Jack B. Kelley Student Center.
Encouraging students to commit to being part of something larger than one’s self is a key mission of the University’s long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
That plan is fueled by the historic One West comprehensive fundraising campaign, which reached its initial $125 million goal 18 months after publicly launching in September 2021. The campaign’s new goal is to reach $175 million by 2025; currently, it has raised more than $150 million.
