CANYON, Texas — Two of West Texas A&M University’s online graduate degrees recently were ranked among the best in the country.

OnlineMastersDegrees.org, a national ranking body that uses data from the U.S. Department of Education, placed WT’s online master’s in information systems at No. 17 and master’s in communications at No. 34 among its 2022 college rankings, released Feb. 1.

OMD analyzed more than 7,700 schools, creating an algorithm to rank 70 unique master’s degree subjects. Only 6 percent of postsecondary institutions earned a ranking position, according to OMD.

To qualify, a school must hold active regional accreditation and have both academic counseling and career placement services available to students. Primary ranking factors included availability of programs with an online component, number of programs in subject area, and metrics considering cost as well as the impact of institutional aid.

“Rankings like these show how committed WT’s faculty and administration is to providing quality education at one of the most affordable and accessible institutions in the country,” said Dr. Angela Spaulding, vice president for research and compliance and dean of the Graduate School.

“As enrollment in master’s degree programs expands, it’s important to showcase colleges and universities with a clear focus on flexible learning and affordable tuition,” said Kyle Darland, co-founder of OnlineMastersDegrees.org. “Each school in our rankings offers partially or fully-online master’s degree options and a price tag that works for students.”

Recently, six of WT’s graduate programs earned Best Program accolades from U.S. News and World Report, and WT’s online undergraduate program was ranked No. 1 in Texas and No. 24 in the country.

WT’s commitment to being a learner-centered university is a key component of the University’s long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.

That plan is fueled by the historic, $125 million One West comprehensive fundraising campaign. To date, the five-year campaign — which publicly launched Sept. 23 — has raised more than $85 million.
