CANYON, Texas — Four of the top drum and bugle corps in the world will perform Aug. 3 at West Texas A&M University.

West Texas Drums will begin at 8 p.m. Aug. 3 in Buffalo Stadium on WT’s Canyon campus. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $25 for reserved seating.

The evening will feature the Blue Knights from Denver; the Troopers from Casper, Wyo.; the Mandarins from Sacramento; and Genesis from Austin. Each corps will offer a preview of the show they will perform at the 2021 Drum Corps International Celebration in Indianapolis in August.

“West Texas Drums will be an exciting evening of performances from some of the world’s finest drum corps,” said Dr. B.J. Brooks, new director of Buffalo Marching Band. “Most marching fans know how amazing it is to see these corps in person, and people who’ve never seen the artistry and power these corps possess will come away a fan for life.”

DCI, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2022, features the world’s most elite and exclusive marching ensembles of student musicians and performers. Typically, ensembles compete throughout the summer before a final competition in August, but because of the pandemic, this shortened season will end in a non-judged showcase.

WT junior Meghan Brooks, a music education and composition major from Canyon, is marching with the Troopers this season.

Fostering an appreciation of the arts is a key component of the University’s long-term plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
