CANYON, Texas — A pair of West Texas A&M University students have earned several thousands in scholarship dollars in their respective fields of study.
Ilda Corrales, a sophomore animal science major from Dimmitt, won the inaugural Outstanding Freshman scholarship at the recent National Ranch and Stock Horse Alliance National Collegiate Championship. The three-year, $6,000 scholarship was awarded after two rounds of interviews with contest judges.
“The scholarship not only comes with money, but with doors of opportunity,” Corrales said. “I am beyond grateful for my coach and to have been a part of such an amazing team.”
Hannah Franklin, a senior broadcast journalism major from Lubbock, recently was named the winner of the Bonner McLane Scholarship from the Texas Broadcast Education Foundation. The $1,500 scholarship applies to the Fall 2021 semester.
“I am extremely excited and blessed to have been awarded this scholarship,” Franklin said. “I am proud to represent our university through the Texas Association of Broadcasters for the second time this upcoming school year.”
Building academic excellence is a key maxim of the University’s long-term plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
