CANYON, Texas — Potential graduate students applying to study communication disorders will soon have a smoother application process at West Texas A&M University.

WT’s Master of Science in Communication Disorders program has begun using the web-based Centralized Application Service for Communication Science & Disorders. The full-service system allows students to apply to multiple participating programs with a single application.

“Most communication disorders students apply to several universities, and many of those high-ranked programs use the CSDCAS portal,” said Dr. Brenda Cross, head of the Department of Communication Disorders. “Students who may not have had WT on their radar before can now apply to study here in a much more convenient way.”

Students receive dedicated customer service from CSDCAS directly, and official transcripts are requested only once and saved in the CSDCAS database, saving students time and money. Students also don’t have to track program-specific requirements on their own and can submit all materials electronically.

The four-part application has three units that are uniform for all applicants; the fourth will ask questions specific to WT’s needs, including Texas residency and more. Information that prospective students provide will roll into WT’s existing databases, still allowing them to receive necessary communication from the graduate school and providing the proper resources if the student is admitted to the program.

Application deadline for Fall 2021 is Jan. 15. Prospective students, who must have a minimum 3.2 GPA in their last 60 hours of coursework, should provide official Graduate Record Exam scores (unless GRE testing centers are mandated to close), a statement of purpose, three letters of recommendation and an application fee of $55 if applying after Jan. 1. That fee will be waived on any applications received by Dec. 31.

For more detailed requirements, call the Graduate School at 806-651-2730 or visit the website.

Putting students first is a key tenet of the University’s long-term plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
