Professional Profile
Tyler Webster joined the West Texas A&M University School of Music in 2026 as assistant professor of clarinet. He earned a bachelor of music in clarinet performance from Texas Tech University, a master of music in clarinet performance from Northwestern University, and an artist diploma and doctor of musical arts from The University of Texas at Austin.
An active orchestral musician, Dr. Webster holds positions with the San Antonio Philharmonic, West Texas Symphony, Abilene Philharmonic, Mid-Texas Symphony, and Harmonium of Texas. He also performs regularly with the New Mexico Philharmonic and other orchestras throughout the southern United States. His orchestral work includes principal and associate principal chairs, as well as the auxiliary roles of E-flat clarinet and bass clarinet.
Dr. Webster is a member of LIST3N, a clarinet, viola, and piano trio; Soundmap New Music Ensemble; and Austin Chamber Music Center. His chamber work includes recital tours, community performances, educational outreach, composer collaborations, and premieres of new music.
Teaching and Related Service
At WT, Dr. Webster teaches applied clarinet and leads the clarinet studio and clarinet choir. He helps students establish a strong technical foundation while developing their individual musical voices. His teaching encompasses solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire, along with recital, audition, and career preparation.
Dr. Webster is also active as a clinician and adjudicator, presenting masterclasses and working with students and music educators throughout Texas. His outreach emphasizes clarinet fundamentals, expressive performance, effective practice, and preparation for auditions and advanced musical study.
Research and Creative Activity
Dr. Webster’s creative work centers on composition, new music, and expanding the repertoire for clarinet. He writes and publishes works for solo clarinet and bass clarinet, clarinet choir, chamber ensembles, and wind ensemble. His research interests include composition, clarinet pedagogy, performance practice, and the development of practical resources for clarinetists and music educators.
His music has been presented at conferences of the Texas Music Educators Association, the International Clarinet Association, and the National Association of Composers/USA. As a performer, conductor, and advocate for new music, he collaborates with composers through premieres, calls for scores, residencies, and multidisciplinary performances.
Personal Sketch
Outside of music, Dr. Webster enjoys strength training, mountain biking, anime, video games, and relaxing at the lake. He also values good food, time with friends, and opportunities to recharge outdoors.
