Homecoming Parade

Lights, Camera, Buffs!

Roll out the red carpet and join us for the WTAMU Homecoming Parade as we celebrate a Hollywood-inspired Homecoming filled with Buffalo pride, community spirit, and star-studded fun. Register your dazzling float, marching group, student organization, or community business/organization. Help make our parade a showcase worthy of the silver screen.

GENERAL PARADE GUIDELINES

All parade entries should be decorated in keeping with the Homecoming theme, Lights, Camera, Buffs!
The name of the organization must be visibly displayed on the float/trailer/vehicle/entry or by the marching unit.
Pomping is strongly encouraged but is not required to participate or for judging.
Good judgment should be used in decorating floats/trailers/vehicles/etc. The West Texas A&M University Homecoming Committee reserves the right to refuse any entries with objectionable/inappropriate material or theme.
The maximum speed limit of the parade is 5 miles per hour.
For safety reasons, individuals on floats (which include, but are not limited to, trailers, vehicles, golf carts, etc.) MUST remain on the float until their float is at a complete stop and parked. Individuals may not jump on and off the float during the parade.
Any individual who shows or exhibits inappropriate behavior will be asked to leave the parade.
MAINTAIN FORWARD MOVEMENT AT ALL TIMES: Please keep up with the parade pace and do not allow large gaps to appear between you and the group in front of you. Remember, there are units behind you that will be affected by slowing or stopping.
Riding Groups are required to ride at the end of the parade.
Any group with animals must provide their own animal waste removal. The Homecoming Committee will NOT provide this service.
Candy & Give-A-Ways: For the safety of our viewers and particularly our children, distribution of any item FROM the moving vehicle is prohibited. Walkers may hand out candy or other items. Please do not distribute any item that bounces or could create a safety hazard for drivers or guests.

TIME AND ROUTE

Staging and line-up will be at the First United Bank Center, Canyon parking lot. All floats and parade entries MUST enter the parking lot through the two designated entrances on 4th Ave.
Check-in will begin at 11:00 a.m. - If your vehicle is not in the parade you will need to park in the designated area on the North side of the First United Bank Center and walk to the parade line-up.
All parade entries and participants must be in line by 12:30 pm. Parade begins at 1:00 pm.
Only vehicles listed on the registration application are permitted in the parade. No exceptions!
To ensure excellence in presentation and efficiency in coordination, placement within the parade lineup is at the discretion of the WTAMU Parade Coordinators and the University Police Department.
DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS OCTOBER 16.

PARADE ROUTE - The parade will begin at the First United Bank Center and proceed west on Russell Long Blvd. The parade will end at Victory Drive. Safety officials will be at the end of the parade route to direct parade exit. It is encouraged for parade participants to disembark from their float at Zone 12 (by the box), Mary Moody Northern Hall, or at Randall County before the float returns to the First United Bank Center. Note: the parade route includes one sharp turn - please make your vehicle driver aware. Large floats/trailers may turn into Randall County and wait until the parade has ended to return to the First United Bank Center via Russell Long Blvd.

PARADE ENTRY JUDGING AND CATEGORIES

Student organizations will participate in both the judges' and people's choice vote, whereas community participants will only participate in the people's choice vote.

To ensure fair judging, student organization floats will be divided into two size categories:

Small Float: Trailer length up to 16 ft and/or 8 riders or fewer
Large Float: Trailer length over 16 ft and/or more than 8 riders
- Please indicate your trailer size, vehicle type, and number of participants on the registration form so we can place you in the correct category.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Judge's Vote:

Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Creativity: Originality and imagination in design
Adherence to Theme: How well the entry represents this year’s Homecoming theme
Craftsmanship: Quality and attention to detail in construction
School Spirit: Display of WT pride
Overall Appearance: Visual impact and cohesiveness
Enthusiasm: Energy and excitement from participants

People’s Choice Award:

All entries are eligible for the People’s Choice Award, chosen by audience vote, with one winner from the student organizations and one winner from the community groups.

How to Vote:

Scan the QR code or visit the survey link provided during the parade
Submit your vote for your favorite entry.
Voting closes 1 hour after the parade ends.

The student organization entry with the most votes will win the $100 People’s Choice Prize. The community group entry with the most votes will have a choice between a free entry to next year's Homecoming Parade or a sweet treat delivery to their office from the WT Homecoming Committee.

All winners will be notified via phone or e-mail at the contact listed on the registration form.

People’s Choice Award (Open to all participants):

Student Organizations - $100 to be deposited into their on campus account
Community Groups - winner may choose one of the following prizes:
- Free entry to the next year's Homecoming Parade, or
- Sweet Treat delivery from the WT Homecoming Committee to your office

Note to Student Organizations:

Prize monies and reimbursements to student organizations will be distributed through the organization's on-campus accounts. If an organization does not have an on-campus account, contact the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership to set one up.

WTAMU STUDENT & CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS

Organizations may be eligible for up to a $200 reimbursement for float supplies and materials. Submit this form for reimbursement by October 30. Expenses for tax and for candy, gifts, etc., to distribute to the audience will not be reimbursed.

Any receipts turned in after October 30 and until November 13 are eligible for up to a 50% reimbursement. After November 13, no reimbursements will be issued.
