WTAMU Offers Financial Help with CashCourse Website

CANYON, Texas—As the number of college graduates with debt continues to increase, West Texas A&M University and the WTAMU College of Business have partnered with the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) to help students, faculty, staff, and the university community become more financially savvy with the new website CashCourse.

It’s easy to sign up for a secure, free CashCourse account at wtamu.edu/cashcourse. Start by clicking 'student’ or 'other’ and then selecting the WTAMU COB as your representative school. The site explores a variety of topics including banking, budgeting, credit and debt, insurance, savings and goal setting. Once an account is created, users have access to hundreds of financial literacy information and planning resources, videos and an area where questions can be 'asked of experts’ via email.

The site also provides information resources for paying for education, making purchases, working and earning, money and relationships, problem solving, identity theft, fraud and provides financial tool sets as well as subject discussions like eating well on a budget and steps to becoming a millionaire.

Campus officials say the information is important because students nationwide are taking out loans, signing up for credit cards and spending money without planning.

"West Texas A&M University takes this issue very seriously, and that’s why we have partnered with NEFE to bring CashCourse to our entire community," Dr. De’Arno De’Armond, director of Undergraduate Business Programs and Gene Edwards Professor of Financial Planning, said. "Our WTAMU College of Business has been very proactive in bringing financial literacy curriculum to students, most recently with the addition of Finance 1307, Personal Finance as a university core course option. CashCourse is a natural extension of this effort making many of the timely topics and information discussed in class available to everyone."
