CANYON, Texas — West Texas A&M University’s choirs will bring a diverse array of beautiful sounds to the state in an upcoming tour of Texas.

Three choirs will offer a preview of the tour in a free concert at 2 p.m. Feb. 19 in Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall on WT’s Canyon campus.

“The concert will feature our three choirs in a variety of choral literature,” said Dr. Sean Pullen, associate professor of music and director of choral activities. “It will be an exciting array of different sounds from all over the world.”

The repertoire will include music by Johannes Brahms, Chen Yi, Franz Schubert, Henryk Górecki and others.

The concert and tour will feature student members of the Collegiate Choir, the Chamber Singers and the WT Chorale.

The tour will take the choirs throughout West Texas, with stops between the South Plains and the El Paso region.

Scheduled performances include 2:25 p.m. Feb. 20 at Seminole High School in Seminole; 9:30 a.m. Feb. 21 at Coronado High School in El Paso; 11:20 a.m. Feb. 21 at Socorro High School in El Paso; 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at Bowie High School in El Paso; and 9:30 a.m. Feb. 22 at Pebble Hills High School in El Paso.

“Our annual tours are vitally important to recruitment,” Pullen said. “We have an outstanding program, and we want WT to be at the forefront the minds of students who are starting to consider where they want to continue their education.”

Fostering an appreciation of the arts is a key component of the University’s long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.

That plan is fueled by the historic, $125 million One West comprehensive fundraising campaign. To date, the five-year campaign — which publicly launched in September 2021 — has raised more than $115 million.
