CANYON, Texas — Two students from West Texas A&M University’s Department of Communication have been selected for the competitive Media Fellows Scholarship from the Washington Media Scholars Foundation.
Clarence Warren and Rachel Widder each will receive $1,500 from the Media Scholars Fellowship to use toward their expenses at WT this fall.
Warren, an Amarillo native, is a senior double-majoring in public relations, advertising, and applied communication, and public service and administration, with a minor in political science.
“I am thrilled to have been selected as a recipient for this scholarship,” Warren said. “The education I have received through the Media Communication program has been world class and having the opportunity to represent WT's program as a scholarship recipient in such a competitive program is a great honor.”
Widder, a junior honors student from Galveston majoring in digital communication and media, also is grateful for the support.
"I am so happy that there are resources, like WMSF, available for students like me,” Widder said. “This financial assistance is needed to continue on the path of academic success. Scholarships like this make it possible to achieve my career goals and help create networking within the industry. The Media Fellows Scholarship is not only an investment in my education but also an investment to the community I hope to serve as a multimedia journalist."
Founded in 2009 by Robin D. Roberts, the non-partisan Washington Media Scholars Foundation (WMSF) provides the opportunity for college students to gain firsthand knowledge of the public policy advertising field. Since its founding, WMSF has provided more than $1 million in student support and scholarships to more than 500 students from hundreds of colleges and universities across the country.
The students’ success reflects the importance of hard work and performance as measures of excellence, part of WT’s generational plan WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
