Hannah Franklin, a junior broadcast journalism student at West Texas A&M University, has been awarded the $3000 Bonner McLane scholarship by the Texas Broadcast Education Foundation for 2020-2021.

“I feel extremely blessed and thankful to have received this scholarship and I am proud to represent WT’s communication program,” Franklin said. “The Media Communication program helped me gain the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and apply for this scholarship.”

Franklin, a Lubbock native, applied for the scholarship which is named after the Texas Association of Broadcasters’ first executive director. The scholarship is granted to only a few students across Texas each year.

“This scholarship will continue to motivate me to pursue my career goals and be a good example of broadcast journalism,” Franklin said. “I’m excited to continue to develop my passion and eventually represent my school and the Department of Communication through broadcast journalism—all thanks to this scholarship.”

Franklin serves as a new student peer leader and is a member of WTAMU’s National Broadcasting Society chapter and Rogers LEAD WT.

“I was thrilled to hear Hannah was selected for the Bonner McLane Scholarship through TBEF,” said Dr. Emily Kinsky, one of the advisers for WTAMU’s NBS chapter. “From writing thank you notes to creating our award-winning service report for NBS Nationals, Hannah has always impressed me with her professionalism, so this scholarship is an appropriate recognition for her work.”

The Texas Association of Broadcasters started the Texas Broadcast Education Foundation in 1973 to foster learning in broadcasting, broadcast journalism, management, advertising, broadcast electronics and other arts and techniques of the broadcasting field.
