CANYON, Texas-A health sciences degree from West Texas A&M University is the best in the country, according to a recent ranking.

WT’s No. 1 ranking on the list of Best Bachelor's in Health Sciences Online 2020 list was released by Best College Reviews (BCR), an online source for comparing academic programs in higher education.

Courses in the 120-credit program include sports nutrition, epidemiology and ethics. Students have the option of either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, and since 2018, the B.S. degree is also offered on campus at The Texas A&M University System’s RELLIS location in Bryan, Texas.

On-campus classes for the B.A. program are offered in Canyon only, and either bachelor’s is also offered completely online.

“We’re honored to be included in the 2020 ranking from Best College Reviews because we do a lot to ensure our students can reap the benefits from our program and engage with their classmates and faculty at many distances. The RELLIS location has been helpful in serving more students in more personable ways and made it possible to achieve our mission of developing leaders in a technology-rich, rigorous educational program,” said Dr. J. Dirk Nelson, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

For the ranking, BCR considered 50 programs currently accepting students. Factors included tuition, national recognition, scheduling options and content customizations.

Other rankings for WT’s health sciences program in 2020 include:

A degree in health sciences gives professionals the foundation necessary in the healthcare industry but with more general application. Health science studies can support careers in developing wellness and fitness programs, research in age related diseases, compliance of safety regulation and more.
