WTAMU Lecture to Focus on Emerging Advertising Trends

CANYON, Texas—Kathy Cornett, chairman of McCormick Company in Amarillo, will deliver a special lecture on "Advertising Industry and Its Current Trends" at 12:20 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, in the Classroom Center, Room 201 at West Texas A&M University.

 Cornett will talk about the emerging trends in the advertising industry and give students advice about finding career entry points and being willing to learn once they are on the job. This event is open to everyone and will provide an excellent professional development and networking opportunity for students.

The featured speaker has more than 43 years of experience in marketing communications. She graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a B.A. in journalism/psychology and earned a master’s degree in community and regional planning/public relations from the University of Texas at Austin.

Cornett currently serves as chairman of McCormick Company, which is headquartered in Amarillo with offices in Des Moines, Iowa; Kansas City, Kan.; Indianapolis, Ind.; Guelph Ontario Canada; Paris, France; Sydney, Australia and a new office coming in St. Louis, Mo. McCormick clients include John Deere, Monsanto, Eli Lilly Co, Farm Credit System, Life Technologies, Western Sales and Testing, United Sorghum Checkoff Program, Texas Cattle Feeders Association and many others.

She began her career as a receptionist in 1971 and became chairman in mid 1990s. Cornett has 44 years of service to McCormick. She served on the WTAMU Foundation Board for many years and is a member of the WTAMU President’s Circle.

Wednesday’s event is organized by the WTAMU American Marketing Association Collegiate Chapter. A free lunch will be provided.
