WTAMU Names New SBDC Director

CANYON, Texas—Officials have named Gina Woodward as the new director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at West Texas A&M University. Woodward has worked for the SBDC for more than six years, including service as the interim director for the past four months.

"The SBDC is a tremendous resource for area entrepreneurs, and Gina has been an integral part of a team that has consistently advanced economic development in the Texas Panhandle," Dr. Neil Terry, dean of the College of Business, said. "We are pleased to have someone with Gina’s experience and professionalism leading the SBDC."

Woodward has a B.S. in psychology, B.B.A in marketing and will earn a M.B.A. this spring, all from West Texas A&M University. Her areas of interest include leveraging technology to reach and assist small business owners and bringing diverse training opportunities to business owners. She assisted clients with the opening of 32 businesses and creation of 103 new jobs since her 2013 appointment as a business consultant.

"The Texas Panhandle has a rich tradition of entrepreneurship, and I look forward to working in this position and continuing to play a role in the development of our area’s entrepreneurs," Woodward said.

P.J. Pronger served as SBDC director for West Texas A&M University for 12 years before taking a leadership position at the regional SBDC headquarters with the Northwest Texas Small Business Development Center last fall.
