CANYON, Texas— "2008 Global Financial Crisis: A Five-Year Assessment (Part VI)" will be the topic of a special marketing and international business seminar at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 in the Classroom Center, Room 221 at West Texas A&M University.
Speakers for the event will be Pat Ware, vice president at Amarillo National Bank, Jim Owens, professor of finance at WTAMU, and Kevin Golden, vice president at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney in Amarillo. This special seminar is organized and moderated by Syed Tariq Anwar, WTAMU professor of marketing and international business. The three speakers will examine today’s post-financial crisis environment and discuss a five-year assessment of global business and the Texas Panhandle’s economy since the crisis.
According to Anwar, this is the sixth seminar in a series on 'financial crisis’ which appeared unannounced in 2008. During the crisis, markets and businesses witnessed major bankruptcies and billions of dollars were lost. Major structural changes have taken place worldwide that continue to fix the system which broke down in 2008. According to one estimate, $15 trillion dollars were lost in this crisis.
The 2008 global financial crisis topic continues to be part of today’s media discussions and business seminars. Anwar said that as of November 2013, financial markets and their global business environments have recovered significantly although structural changes and reforms are still being implemented in the United States and other countries. In addition, the seminar is timely and educational and will provide useful information to students and the business community.
